Fashion technology

Fashion Technology (NIFT), Delhi was established in 1986 under the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India. The main motive behind the idea of this Institute was to fulfill the long-felt needs of the export-oriented garment industry to train manpower in fashion design, garment manufacturing technology and apparel marketing and merchandising. NIFT is one of the leading fashion schools of India. It is the founder member of "Fashion school foundation of world", which comprises 23 fashion schools worldwide. Many of the leading designers of India are NIFT alumni. NIFT has been empowered by an act of parliament to grant its own degrees.
A faculty of trained and highly qualified staff is a plus point of NIFT. Here, the "learning by doing" approach is given importance and hence students are being trained according to the national as well as international demand of the market. This course is a 4-year degree course.
Some Star Alumni of the Fashion Design Department include: Rohit Bal, Ritu Beri, J J Vallaya, Ashish Soni, Rajesh Pratap Singh, Sabhyasachi Mukherjee, Aarti Solanki, Abhishek Gupta, Nandita Basu, Anshu Arora Sen who have gone on to launch their own labels. Some of them are prominent in other fashion industries as well, like exports, domestic design, design consultancy & buying, etc. These include naming a few.
